How to film your stories
A guide to help you get started filming the perfect story on your own
1. Use real people
- People like to see other people, so instead of showing your off amazing cafeteria, have some of your co-workers talk you trought it.
- Candidates trust the company 3x more than the company to provide credible information on what it's like to work there.
2. Use video instead of pictures
- Video performs better than pictures and establishes a more personal feel to the message.
- Pictures with text are easy to use, but will result in a lower view time and less engagement.
3. Film in the vertical story format
- Always film vertically by rotating your phone 90 degrees.
4. Choosing the location
- Find a location that is bright enough for your video.
- Always face towards the light and not stand in front of a window.
5. Choosing the background
- Clean up disctrations and clutter - your video should represent you as a professional.
- A visually appealing background makes your audience focus on the message you’re trying to deliver.
6. Placing the subject in the video
- A thumb of rule: place your head 2/3 up in the video.
- Try to stand a bit away from the background to add depth and make sure you are the primary focus in the frame.
7. Video quality
- Don't overthink it – your phone is good enough.
- Use the standard settings when you open your camera and use the front camera on your phone to record yourself.
8. Audio quality
- Having good audio quality can make a huge difference.
- Make sure you are in a location without too much backhround noise.
